ARK Kings Academy Students Celebrate their Best GCSE Results Yet
Our students are celebrating their best set of GCSE results yet with the number of students achieving five A*- C grades, including English and maths, jumping 22 percentage points to 46%.
57% of students achieved grade A* - C in English, a rise of 28 percentage points on the previous year, while 59% achieved A* - C in maths. Overall, 46% of students achieved at least 5 A*-C grades including English and mathematics, a rise of 22 percentage points since 2013 (24%).
Usmaan Ali (featured above) has just this morning got 2 As, 4Bs and 3 Cs at GCSE including As in maths and RE. He hopes to become the first doctor in his family and will continue his education at Solihull Sixth Form College before going on to university.
“My Granddad pushed me to become a doctor because he wants one of his grandchildren to become a doctor. I look up to my Granddad and I take care of him. I love taking care of people’s health and talking to them. If I can help people’s lives by making them feel better that makes me feel better. Plus, it’s a really good career, of course.
“School said do what you love to do. They put on enrichment days where we received help on thinking about careers and applying for college. Mr Vinten (Usmaan’s Maths teacher) helped me a lot - he got me work experience at a lawyers and this helped me understand the importance of a work ethic.
“Our school changed dramatically when we changed to ARK Kings Academy - we became more focused and more academic. When I looked around the class in Year 11 everyone was working and that was a major difference - for example, in the middle of a maths lesson all you would hear is total silence or the sound of writing. We just cracked on and that’s what I liked.”
Mercy Kosta (pictured in the main image sharing her results with her teacher Miss Rhodes) has also just received her GCSE results. Mercy, who only joined ARK Kings towards the end of Year 10, has worked hard to catch up. Speaking shortly after receiving her results, Mercy said:
"I was so scared but I'm happy with my results. I got an A in Maths, a B in English Language and B in Double Science and can now go to Cadbury College."
Determination and Commitment
Principal Roger Punton (pictured above), said:
“Our students have shown real determination and commitment in their studies and I am delighted that so many of them have done so well. This set of results, with a 24% increase in students achieving five A* - C grades, including English and Maths, shows that our school is making huge progress in delivering the best possible education for our young people. I wish all of our students the very best for the future.”
