STEMettes Event at Millennium Point: Our Year 9 students met HRH Prince Harry and his fiancé Meghan Markle

For International Women’s day, we took 10 of our best female scientists and mathematicians to a ‘STEMettes’ event at Millennium point. STEM is an abbreviation for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – and currently women only make up 21% of people working in STEM careers! Whilst at Millennium point our Year 9 girls took part in various activities using STEM, involving competing in virtual reality games and wiring a computer through a banana! They also heard stories from inspirational women who have been incredibly successful in their careers in STEM. Our own Bethany Jones won a competition for her engagement throughout the day.

Our day was made even better, when our Year 9 students met Royalty! HRH Prince Harry and his fiancé Meghan Markle visited the event to speak to girls about their love for STEM. Our students chatted to the Royals, and Heather Neath and Caitlin Tristram made the national news! It was a fantastic experience that we’ll surely always remember!
