Competition Heating up for this year's Head Girl and Head Boy Leadership Roles
With less than 24 hours to go until the deadline for applications for this year's student leadership roles of Head Girl and Head Boy, the competition is heating up.
Earlier this month, Year 11 students interested in taking up the role of either Head Girl or Head Boy were invited to put their names forward. To apply, students had to write a cover letter, explaining why they are interested in the role and what qualities they would bring as Head Girl or Head Boy.
Laura Redhead, Student Challenge Coordinator, said:
"I've been impressed by the high level of interest our Year 11 students have shown in becoming Head Girl and Head Boy. Students have been coming up to me in the corridor most days, asking me about the role, and the quality of written applications has been extremely high. The field is strong and we will have a difficult time choosing just one Head Girl and one Head Boy."
After the deadline passes tomorrow, staff will review all applications submitted and the strongest candidates will go through to a series of ‘hustings’ events next week. Each candidate will give a speech and answer questions on what they will bring as Head Girl or Head Boy. The final test will take the form of a formal interview with Principal Roger Punton.
The roles of Head Girl and Head Boy were created when ARK Kings Academy became an academy, back in 2012. The roles are designed to help students gain valuable leadership experience and to provide students with a greater say in decision making. At ARK Kings, the Head Girl and Head Boy perform a number of duties, including giving assemblies, welcoming visitors and speaking up for issues affecting other students.
