Excellent GCSE success for Year 11

Students from Ark Kings Academy are celebrating their impressive GCSE results.

The number of pupils achieving the new benchmark score of 4 or better in 5 GCSEs including English and Maths (equivalent to a C) has risen from 43% to 57%. This measure represents a passport set of grades that students need in order to progress to higher education.

The school is also celebrating their Attainment8 figure. Students achieved a score of 4.4, an improvement on last year of 3.9 and the best attainment that the school has ever achieved.  This score reflects the average attainment achieved by each pupil in eight GCSEs.

Ark Kings Principal, Roger Punton, said: “Our motto at Ark Kings is ‘Aspire. Expect. Achieve. Together’ and these values are manifest in this year’s excellent results. I would like to congratulate our students and staff on their hard work that has enabled us to achieve our best ever results!”

Among Ark Kings’ strongest performers in this year’s GCSEs were:

A number of students joined the academy during their GCSEs, and despite having never studied many subjects before, achieved a set of excellent results, which will enable them to go on to be successful in further education:

Jake (9, 8, 8, 8, 8, 7, 7, 6, 5)

Georgia (8, 7, 7, 7, 7, 6, 5, 5, 5, 4)

Libby (6, 6, 6, 5, 5, 5, 4, 4, 4)

Alex (7, 6, 6, 5, 5, 5, 4, 4, 3)

Jake: (9, 8, 8, 8, 8, 7, 7, 6, 5)

Jake joined our family in the Easter of year 10, and as such had to adapt to a new school and new curriculum with very little time left until his GCSE exams. Despite this, Jake went on to achieve an excellent string of GCSE results.. This was testament to Jake’s hard work and dedication. Especially impressive is to have achieved a grade 9. This is the new highest posible grade, and is the equivalent to a top A* on the old system. Jake is going on to study A-Levels and intends to apply to Cambridge University. We wish him the best of luck!

Lois (8, 8, 7, 7, 7, 6, 6, 5, 5)

Lois has been in our family since year 7; following in the footsteps of her older brothers and sisters. Since year 7, Lois’ attendance, punctuality, work ethic and attitude to learning have been excellent. It was therefore no surprise to us that she achieved such excellent GCSE results. We are confident that whatever Lois puts her mind to, she will achieve, and we look forward to hearing about her future successes – we know she will enjoy them all with a smile!
