ARK Kings Students Think of Others at Christmas Time

This week, students (and staff!) have been getting excited about Christmas but that hasn’t stopped them thinking of others less fortunate than themselves.

On Wednesday, students and staff sat down together to enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner with a twist: their teachers, including Mr Punton the Principal and members of the senior leadership team served students!

The day was also notable for the sheer intensity of colours on display in the dining hall. ARK Kings Academy had chosen to make Wednesday ‘Christmas Jumper Day’, with students and staff donating money to Save the Children in return for permission to swap their regular uniform for jumpers with real personality.

As ever, students and staff responded with generosity and flair. In total, we raised nearly £100. You can see just a small selection of the fantastically varied Christmas jumpers on display in the collage below.

Students have also given generously to our annual Christmas food and toys appeals. Food donations went to B30 Food Bank in Cotteridge, which helps local people experiencing hardship while Birmingham City Mission will distribute the toys to children who would not otherwise receive a present on Christmas day.

We’ve made a selection of short videos about our Christmas charity appeal, explaining what we do and the difference it makes to local families. We hope you enjoy them!

We are proud of our students for their thoughtfulness towards others less fortunate than themselves at Christmas. At ARK Kings we seek both to develop our students’ character as well as their academic potential. Throughout the year, we encourage students to support a diverse range of causes, from Macmillan Cancer Support to Remembrance and World AIDS Day.
