Primary School Pupils Shine at ARK Kings Basketball Tournament
Last week, ARK Kings Academy played host to basketball teams from local primary schools for the latest round of the Birmingham School Games.
Each team played a series of round-robin games, with the team with the most points being declared the winner. Hollywood Primary School took first place, winning all their games. The team from Bells Farm Primary School also put in a very strong performance and only narrowly missed the top spot.
Speaking after his team had been awarded first place, Hollywood's star player, Ty, said:
"We've had so much fun today at ARK Kings and it feels so good to win. Basketball is a hard game so I would encourage other players to practice and be prepared [before entering a tournament]."
The competition formed part of the Birmingham School Games programme. The programme provides a year-round calendar of competition for all young people in years 3 to 13 across the city that aims to inspire them to get involved in competitive school sport. The winning team from Hollywood Primary School will now go on to compete with teams from across the city at the Birmingham School Games championship later this year.
ARK Kings Academy is committed to competitive sport and recognises the positive effect it has on the development of young people's character. Throughout the year, we enter teams into competitive fixtures. In 2013, our football team reached the last 16 of the English Schools FA Cup competition.
In addition to providing our students with access to competitive sport, we also help extend opportunities to the wider community we are part of. As well as hosting competitions such as the Birmingham School Games, we also hire out our facilities in the evening to community groups at competitive prices.
