Student Leadership Team Prepares to Lead on the Global Stage
On Thursday and Friday (30 April and 1 May), members of ARK Kings’ student leadership team took part in a training programme aiming to equip them with the skills and confidence to engage with and effect change on the global stage.
Over the two day, students from ARK Kings worked alongside students from across the West Midlands to explore a range of global issues and how young people can make a positive difference. Issues included global development, the environment, democratic participation and impact of new technology.
On the second day, students were told that they would be organising a youth conference in November to raise awareness of global issues. Each school team was given a role in organising the conference. Perhaps in recognition of our participation in the BBC News School Report project, ARK Kings students were given responsibility for engaging local newspapers and encouraging them to cover the conference.
The training was organised and delivered by educational charity the University of the First Age. Their programme, Young People on The Global Stage, encourages young people to work together to explore global issues which will affect their future.
Jordan, ARK Kings’ Deputy Headboy said: “It was nice to meet people from other schools and to learn about the qualities and skills that make a good leader. We’re looking forward to working on the conference.”
We hope to see our students apply their learning to making a difference at school, in their local neighbourhoods as well as on the national and global stages
Look out for future updates from Jordan and the team over on the ARK Kings Academy Student Leadership blog.
