Roger Punton Appointed Principal of ARK Kings Academy
ARK Schools has today announced that Roger Punton (pictured) has been appointed as the new Principal of ARK Kings Academy in Kings Norton, Birmingham, effective immediately.
Experience and Stability
Mr Punton brings to the role of Principal nearly ten years of experience at ARK Kings, serving the academy as Vice Principal before becoming Acting Principal in January.
Sophy Blakeway, Chair of Governors for ARK Kings Academy said:
“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Punton as principal of ARK Kings with immediate effect. Mr Punton has been at ARK Kings for nearly ten years; he is deeply committed to the school, understands its challenges and believes in its potential to become exceptional. Over the past four months, as Acting Principal, he has led the school successfully, improving the quality of teaching and learning whilst gaining the respect and confidence of pupils, parents and staff.”
New Principal of ARK Kings Academy Roger Punton said:
“As Principal, I am committed to maintaining and strengthening the progress ARK Kings Academy has made. Our goal is for every student to fill their potential and leave this academy with the qualifications, the skills and the confidence to be prepared for the challenge of university or the career or their choice.”
Examples of recent progress can be found across the academy. Behaviour is much improved and visitors often remark on the warm and welcoming feel of the school and the orderly way in which students make their way to and from lessons. High standards of behaviour create conditions where every student can flourish and are a central pillar for every ARK school.
ARK Kings Academy’s focus will remain on the improving of standards which deliver better results for our students. This summer the school expects to see significant improvements in its GCSE results and, under Mr Punton’s leadership, to continue to drive up standards over the coming years.
A Bright Future
Parents and students are recognising the changes that are happening at ARK Kings Academy. This September the school will be welcoming upwards of 60 students into Year 7, more than doubling the 2013 entry.
The ARK School Network
ARK Kings is a member of ARK schools, a network of high-achieving, non-selective schools and one of the country’s top-performing academy groups. We run 27 academies in London, Birmingham, Portsmouth and Hastings, educating around 14,500 pupils. 13 of the 13 ARK academies so far inspected by Ofsted are rated good or outstanding. Our aim is to create outstanding schools that give every pupil, regardless of their background, the opportunity to go to university or pursue the career of their choice.
