Consultation to Open A Nursery Class at Ark Kings Academy
Kings Norton Children’s Centre and Nursery (KNCC), which was situated on our primary site, closed unexpectedly in July 2018.
The KNCC closure resulted in a number of parents not having a nursery place or having to travel out of the B38 ward. Since the children's centre closure, the academy received several requests from parents to start running its own nursery and to have children of all ages at one school. Ark Schools and BCC are committed to ensuring there is high quality pre-school education for children in the locality and we feel our school is well placed to provide this.
Following the closure Birmingham City Council (BCC) entered into discussions with Ark Kings Academy regarding re-opening its nursery provision which had formally closed in 2017 when Ark Rose Primary amalgamated with Ark Kings Academy.
Following informal consultation with parents and BCC, the school subsequently submitted a proposal to BCC to open a nursery class with a planned admission number of 26. BCC’s latest Childcare Sufficiency Assessment has identified a gap in the provision of 3 and 4-year-old Early Education Entitlement (EEE) places in the Kings Norton South Ward – mainly attributed to the closure of the children’s centre and the loss of 80 FTE places. The proposal was therefore approved by BCC in March 2019.
The academy is now consulting to make a permanent change to the age range in its funding agreement from 4-18 to 3-18 to allow for the nursery provision. The consultation will run from Monday 4th November to Monday 2nd December. The decision to approve the proposal or not will be made by the Department for Education in December.
If you would like to respond to this consultation please submit your response in writing to Kirsty Mack, email@example.com, by 4pm on Monday 2nd December.
