Primary Opening Arrangements for Keyworker and Vulnerable Children

Tuesday 05 January 2021

Last night, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that England would be placed into a national lockdown ‘tough enough to contain’ the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Prime Minister advised that in order to ‘do everything we possibly can to stop the spread of the disease, primary schools, secondary schools and colleges across England must move to remote learning, except for vulnerable children and children of key workers.’

As a result of this announcement, all pupils at Ark Kings Primary will learn remotely until Friday 12th February 2021, returning to school on Monday February 22nd 2021, as long as the national lockdown is over. Kings Primary will however remain open for any pupil classified as vulnerable or a child of a critical worker from Thursday 7th January 2021. Staff will be contacting families over the next few days if their child/ children are eligible to come to school. All pupils will continue to receive learning on a weekly basis either via online or work packs.

More information on your child’s learning will be sent to you over the next few days. Your children worked exceptionally hard last term and made good progress catching up on missed learning from the previous lockdown. We do not want any child to slip back so your support with home learning will be vital over the next 5 weeks. We will include a weekly timetable starting from Monday 11th January 2021 for you and your child/ children to follow.

For pupils in Year 5 and 6 who have their digital devices, much of their work will be set through these, including some live lessons. We will send out links and information regarding these ahead of next week. We will be aiming to get laptops out to Year 4 pupils over the next few weeks.

You can help by:

  • Keeping your child/ children in a consistent routine
  • Creating a quiet workspace for your child/ children to work and complete home tasks
  • Keep in communication with school and answer phone calls- staff will phone to speak to you and your child/ children to support you with their work

Information regarding Free School Meal vouchers will come out to you as soon as we have been informed of the Government process. Please bear with us while we await these instructions. Pupils who continue to attend our community classrooms will receive free school meals.
