PE Trip to Birmingham City FC

On Sunday the 6th of May,  24 pupils were selected for the termly PE rewards trip for showing outstanding attitudes to learning in PE. Pupils were selected for a range of reasons such as extracurricular involvement, pursuing sport outside of school, or showing outstanding endeavour during lessons this term. The trip was to St Andrews, home of Birmingham City FC for the final Championship Football League game of the season. Miss Lloyd kindly arranged this trip and this will hopefully mark the beginning of a strong relationship with the club.

In front of a sell-out crowd, Birmingham secured their Championship survival in an enthralling 3-1 victory over promotion hopefuls Fulham FC. Pupils were a credit to the academy, and conducted themselves in exemplary fashion throughout the trip. Pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and were able to relate their learning at school to the professional game. Pupils were able to describe the impact of commercialisation on the game, and the five stages of the warm up that we perform at Ark Kings Academy. Honourable mentions for leadership go to Jamie Granaghan who was explaining the rules of football to pupils who needed some clarity, and the Allen brothers for endeavour through ferocious vocal backing to the “boys in royal blue”

Despite Jack Langford Dark describing the trip as “a once in a lifetime opportunity”, we are sure the PE department will have many more opportunities of this kind in the near future!
