At Ark Kings our vision for pupils is that:

Every individual will develop the character to thrive in life, education and employment.

We know that for pupils to be successful in life, education and employment, the work they do outside of school is crucial, so their ambitions and dreams can become a reality. It is for this reason that we are launching these expectations for study for our pupils. Given the current climate and the effects of the pandemic, we know that studying outside of school is even more important.

We expect the following from pupils:

  1. Pupils should read for 20 minutes every night.
  2. Pupils should follow the below study timetable, completing their studies as directed by their class teachers.
  3. Pupils will complete their work online, using Hegarty Maths, Seneca or Microsoft Assignments in Microsoft Teams.

The above timetable is very much recommended, but we recognise that pupils may be busy some evenings or they may prefer to work at the weekend. This gives pupils the flexibility to complete their studies at a time that is convenient for them and their family.

    Laptops, Wi-fi and Study Club

We have distributed over 500 laptops to pupils in the Secondary Phase of Ark Kings. These laptops are loans to help pupils have reliable access to study resources. If your child has not collected a device, they are still available, so please email s.mccay@arkkingsacademy.org or the relevant Culture & Ethos Lead to arrange collection. If you are having issues accessing the internet we are offering a Study Club night every week where pupils can complete work.

How can I support my child at home?

Working together will help our pupils be successful, you can support them in the following ways:

    • Allocate a quiet study space at home
    • Ask to see your child’s online study
    • Test them on what they’ve learnt
    • Ask your child to explain what they have learnt
    • Set targets together
    • Familiarise yourself with Hegarty Maths, Seneca and Microsoft Assignments
    • Visit the school website Study section to access all information and how-to guides (https://arkkingsacademy.org/secondary/study-support-resources)
